Introduction The purpose of this document is to present a research proposal for a research that will later be conducted. The area focused in the research is hybridity is the context of post colonial literature with the main focus being on English literature existing in Pakistan. This chapter of the proposal will be discussing the background of the research, the significance of the research and the aims and objectives that have been established for the research. Proposed Research Topic is: Hybridity in Post colonial literature in the context of blending cultures of Pakistan 1.1 Research Overview One of the best works in post colonial studies especially in terms of hybridity is that of Ashcroft, Griffiths and Tiffin (2003), who provide one of the most useful definitions of the term hybridity in the context of post colonialism. According to their view, hybridity is the consequence of colonialism is the way that when the rulers took over a place and started to develop their economies and societies in the search of natural resource and political gains, they adapted some of the social aspects of the people already living in that area and similarly, the people living in that area adopted something from the rulers. The result was that the future generations consequently had evolved to include parts of both the communities and were no more either natives or the foreigner, they were both. Naturally then, as all other things got impacted by especially the politics, the languages and the social norms and traditions, the production of literature also got effected in such a way that the resulting literature had chunks of both or more than that societies. One of the famous works in this case is that of Arudhati Roy, who represents the Indian society but in a very “English” manner such that the production of themes and ideas overall is neither purely Indian nor purely westernized. What the proposed research into the field post colonial literature wants to find is the evidence of hybridity, the theme under question, in the literature produced by Pakistanis. More specifically, the research wants to find out whether the culture of Pakistan, as it is represented in the literature is affected by hybridity or not. 1.2 Research Significance One of the main reasons why the proposed research is important is because hybridity in post colonial literature is dominant themes in the study of literature. In its own domain, post [...]

Abstract This study looks at the role of agriculture sector on technology, government policies, natural resources, climate factor and labor force. For this study, 50 different people were asked different question about the impact of agriculture sector on technology, government policies, natural resources, climate factor and labor force. When the survey was completed and returned, the data were entered into SPSS for analysis. Different statistical analyses were used to interpret results. I found that agriculture sector have a positive effect on technology, government policies, natural resources, climate factor and labor force. The results and data are discusses in depth within this report. There are also several limitations at the end of this report. CHAPTER 1 Introduction Agriculture is by far the most important sector for Pakistan’s economy. Pakistan has a rich and vast natural resource base, covering various ecological and climatic zones; hence the country has great potential for producing all types of food commodities. Agriculture has an important direct and indirect role in generating economic growth. The importance of agriculture to the economy is seen in three ways: first, it provides food to consumers for domestic industry; second, it is a source of scarce foreign exchange earnings; and third, it provides a market for industrial goods. The total geographical area of Pakistan is 79.6 million hectares. About 27 percent of the area is currently under cultivation. Of this area, 80 percent is irrigated. In this regard, Pakistan has one of the highest proportions of irrigated cropped area in the world. The cultivable waste lands offering good possibilities of crop production amount to 8.9 million hectares. Growth in cropped area is very impressive: from 11.6 million hectares in 1947 to 22.6 million hectares in 2007. Most of Pakistan is classified as arid to semi-arid because rainfall is not sufficient to grow agricultural crops, forest and fruit plants and pastures. About 68 percent of the geographical area has annual rainfall of 250 mm, whereas about 24 percent has annual rainfall of 251 to 500 mm. Only 8 percent of the geographical area has annual rainfall exceeding 500 mm. Thus supplemental water is required for profitable agricultural production, either from irrigation or through water harvesting. Agriculture is largely dependent on artificial means of irrigation. Of the total cultivated area, about 82 percent or around 17.58 million hectares is irrigated, while crop production in the remaining 3.96 million hectares depends mainly upon rainfall. The Irrigation Canal Command Area (CCA) has been grouped into classes on the basis of the nature and severity of its limitations water logging, salinity and texture. At present about one-fifth of the cultivated land in CCA is affected by water logging and salinity to varying degrees. An additional area of 2.8 million hectares suffers from solidity. Notwithstanding huge investments, the water table was 0 to 1.5 m under 2.2 million hectares of irrigated land, 1.5 to 3 m under 6 million hectares. Agriculture is a vital sector of Pakistan’s economy and accounted for 25.9 percent of GDP in 2006-2007, [...]

Contents Introduction Purpose of the Paper Summary of Situational Analysis Market Positioning of the organization Responding Competitive Advantage Nature of Opportunity Resource and Capabilities Recommended Strategy Route Strategic Recommended Increasing the Willingness to Pay Increasing the Ability to Pay References Introduction Fifield (2007) notes that whereas the department of sales in an organization is about ensuring the customers actually buys whatever the organization is making, the aim of the marketing department is to make whatever the customer wants to buy. Even though marketing is usually just perceived by a lay man to revolve around advertising of a commodity that a particular organization is making, the concept of marketing is actually a lot deeper. And given the complex and competitive world that is now being evolved, it is very important for the organizations to best cater to the needs of the customers and then again to attract as many customers towards them as possible. One significant solution to this then is to develop a strategic marketing plan. Strategy has been defined by Proctor (2000) as the process through which an organization develops and plans its goals and then achieves it. This means that a strategy includes both planning and implementing. Going further into the paper then, another important element of strategy, evaluating will be studied. The successful implementation of the marketing mix leads to satisfaction of customer wants and needs and increases the likelihood of achieving an organization’s objective in the market place. In recent years, relationship marketing has come to the fore as strategic alliances and networks involving firms working together towards shared goals has become more fashionable (Proctor, 2000). The aim of this entire process employed by a business organization then is to be able to gain competitive advantage in the market place. In the real, practical world, a business organization is usually set up with a profit and an ongoing motive. No business organization wants to just serve to the public with a reasonable revenue attached to it for various reason of which the first and the foremost is that even for serving selflessly, an organization needs funds which will not be provided endlessly by another entity. It is up to strategic marketing then, to analyze what the customers want, to study the spending patterns and the behaviors of the public and to focus on the expected impact of a marketing policy in order to provide to the customers exactly what they desire while helping the organization make fair amounts of profits. The word fair here, is obviously a relative term. Purpose of the Paper The purpose of the paper is to present a marketing strategy for Etihad Airlines for the years 2012 to 2015. This will be done by initially giving a brief summary of the situational analysis of the organization and then moving with recommending a marketing strategy taking into account the opportunities and threats that the organization has and given its external and internal environments. Summary of Situational Analysis Etihad Airways targets the high income [...]

1. Introduction: A core feature of modern company law and financial regulations focus on the role of directors in a company. A decade ago independent directors in a company was a feature of some of the advanced jurisdictions only, for instance, United States and United Kingdom. However, since, the East Asian Financial Crisis of 1997, much of developing and transitioning economies like China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and Australia have taken measures to respond to any perceived crisis through both legislative and regulatory reforms and raising the standard of corporate governance. One of the common themes of these reformations has been re-evaluation of directors’ duties and introducing a system of non-executive independent directors to improve system of corporate governance, particularly in listed companies (Gu, M 2003). It is frequently stated that independence directors can play a significant role in monitoring the decision making process of management and bring expert knowledge and business networking beneficial for the company and its management (Fama, EF. 1980). In the year 2001, China Security and Regulatory Commission (the “CSRC”) issued a guiding opinion on establishment of Independent Directors Institution in China. This opinion led to establishment of independent director institutions formally prescribing a mandatory threshold of one-third (1/3rd) of independent directors in listed companies (Shen, S. & Jia, J. 2004). In 2004, the Security Exchange of Hong Kong which is globally ranked at fourth (4th) by equity funds has made it compulsory for all listed companies to have at least three independent non-executive directors at their board (King, R. & Peng, WQ. 2006). In 2003, the Australia Stock Exchange (ASX) made ten (10) principles of corporate governance including principles related to introduction of independent directors on the board of listed companies. In UK, the history of independent director formally begin in with the Cadbury’s report of 1992 and the contemporary system of corporate governance with respect to independent director is more or less result of Higg’s Report of 2002. This study assesses how effective role of independent directors is achieved in Hong Kong, China, Australia and United Kingdom. 2. Literature Review: In 1939, Berle and Means called into inquiry the performance of legal system on which the free enterprize economies have been constructed. They pointed out that the corporate enterprizes in addition to tending to become (i) free from the (de facto) control of corporate owners, (Berle & Means, 1939) have (ii) acquired adequate power to become free from the market forces of competition. They concluded that much of the economic theory pertaining to the operation of marketplace, which served as a rational for the free-enterprise market economy, has become obsolete by the accretion of vast power in the hands of “corporate managers” with very wide discretion (Salvadori, M. 1963). This challenging thesis caused much debate among different disciplines of legal realists and economists and within various institutional frameworks that still continues resulting in emergence of rival systems of corporate governance. Since the last two decades, subject of corporate governance has become one of the [...]
